A company that makes 3D printers based in Illinois has developed a commercial printer that produces lightweight parts that are already being used in the aerospace industry. Their printer can also be used in automotive manufacturing.

This is significant because it could be the first step in changing industrial manufacturing for good. Impossible Objects printer can make parts that are lighter than metal and stronger than injection molded parts, as well as parts that come from any current type of 3D printer.

Less expensive products for the consumer

The company has secured $6.4 million worth of capital to begin to manufacture and distribute their machines, as well as the materials that feed into them. An improvement from the current methods of making parts, 3D printing can make parts faster and cheaper, as well as help maintain more accurate
inventories for manufacturers. Ultimately it could mean cheaper products for consumers. From CNBC
