China to Use More A.I. in Education

China wants to be world leader in A.I. innovation

Integrates artificial intelligence into education

China has plans to turn much of their education over to A.I. in the coming years. With artificial intelligence, students can access information about a subject from the internet, bypassing the classroom.

And artificial intelligent systems can process student testing on a massive scale in a blink of an eye, taking the burden of grading papers off teachers, who can then spend more one on one time with students.

Which is crucial for China, as its education system grows to meet increased enrollment. Currently, there are 188 million students in China and 14 million teachers. By comparison, there are 33 million US students and 3 million teachers.

But China is already finding the effectiveness of A.I. in education as well as its potential to drive down costs for quality education. Shanghai online education start-up Master Learner and others will allow wider access to high-quality teaching methods and a broader range of information for Chinese students outside more advanced urban hubs.

Tools like image facial recognition and voice pattern recognition will enable A.I. to direct teachers toward areas of struggle for students. And the costs of a good education could be reduced as well. With large online enrollments, up in the millions, costs for classes and programs are spread out, lowering fees for everyone. A year-long course one company offers costs just $146.

Cheaper, better, more personalized education for more people. Seems like A.I. could win hearts and minds when it comes to education. From South China Morning Post
