Amazon is into Kohls

Amazon and Kohls form alliance

Kohls to feature Amazon smart home products, returns

In a bid to strengthen customer engagement in Amazon products, the online shopping behemoth is opening the 'Amazon experience' in select Kohls stores in LA and Chicago.

The pilot project is going to determine if the plan works for both and from there, expect expansion into a Kohls store near you.

Kohls shoppers will be able to explore and purchase new Amazon home products and also return them there. Amazon hopes it will be an added convenience for its customers, while Kohls sees it as an opportunity to increase foot traffic.

This move comes as the department store presence in America is in slow decline. Many of the big brands are suffering. Macy's, for instance, has seen its stock shrink 44% from a  year ago. Kohls seems to be suffering the least among department stores and in the future, will be reducing its floor space as it seeks to adapt.

Kohls and Amazon smartly see opportunity in light of this. Amazon has a clothesline it would like to introduce, which may fit nicely into Kohls available floor space. And there is also Amazon Prime grocery that could come into play.

The Wisconsin based department store may look to offer Under Armour some floor space as it slowly surrenders to online shopping. It seems like the trend will be for Kohls to reduce its brick and mortar footprint while offering a new streamlined version of the traditional shopping experience. From CNBC

Amazon Echo and Alexa introduce communication minus the cell phone

Amazon is about to introduce the next big thing in communicating with friends and family. Voice-activated calling and video will become a feature in Echo and Alexa.

Users request access to people they would like to communicate with and a couple of voice commands later, the user is in a conversation as if there was a cell phone call placed.

It is an opportunity to reduce the times' people have to look for and pick up a cell phone in order to communicate. Simply speak and listen through the Echo speaker as Alexa manages the process through voice commands.

The technology was added a few weeks ago and includes mobile devices as well as landlines. This comes as Alexa continues to get smarter through the use of A.I. Alexa has added 25,000 new skills in the last three months alone. From CNBC
