Maybe Singularity Won't Be So Bad

Ray Kurzweil predicts the big 'S' happens in 2045

A.I. surpasses human intelligence by 2029, he says

Most of Kurzweil's predictions have turned out accurately, he is the first to say. He seems to be on target with 2029 as the time when A.I. surpasses human intelligence. Google's A.I. IQ is at around 45 and has doubled every three years. If it continues to do so, there will be an A.I. with a human genius IQ by about the time Kurzweil predicts.

The Essence of Singularity

Singularity happens when humans converge fully with artificial intelligence. It occurs by implanting A.I. in our brains and connecting ourselves to a computing cloud that can store and process information in unlimited amounts.

With email, cell phones, the internet, rudimentary algorithms, that connection is already beginning. But of course, artifical intelligence and other technologies will accelerate it, according to Kurzweil and other experts.

What it will look like, however, is another story. It sounds plenty scary with the perception of humans being in control seemingly lost. But Kurzweil says fears are misplaced as singularity actually will make our lives more exciting, with humans continuing to have a prominent place in the world and their destiny. Only will we really be humans?

Singularity enhances human potential

He claims that humans injecting themselves with A.I. and joining a new world of singularity will be beneficial. It will make us smarter and more capable. There will not be one powerful A.I. that rules over us but billions of separate A.I.'s  that we connect to, that are connected to each other.

Artificial intelligence will not crush us, he believes. It will only enhance us. But who gets the new neural networks implanted first? And who decides? The wealthier for sure. But you know, there are cell phones in African villages. So, like Kurzweil says maybe we shouldn't worry.  Source
